about me

jean-pierre leguillou | Graphic designer

I was born in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico (Cuartel de Ballajá), literally across from what would later become my first art school. I started studying art at an early age at the Liga de Arte del Viejo San Juan. For many years, I studied various mediums including oil painting, drawing and serigraphy.

In 1985, I moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Catholic University, graduating in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. While studying at Catholic, I concurrently attended the Corcoran School of Art, where for two years, I sharpened my painting and drawing skills. I moved to the United Kingdom in 1989, right after graduation. I spent an amazing year living in London and realized my desire to return to art school.

In 1992, I attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design, receiving a professional certificate in graphic design. From 1992 to 1994, I was a member of the Cornwall Gallery, an artist-run gallery in Jamaica Plain, MA. In 1997, with Megan Hurst and Paul O'Brien, I co-created Hoax Productions, an artist group that collaborated in many art-related projects in Boston.

Early in my design career, I had the opportunity to assist as an intern in one of the five design firms involved in developing "the look" for the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games in 1996. In 1999, The International Bluegrass Music Association nominated me for Best Graphic Design for a Recorded Project.

As an artist and designer, I truly believe that form and function go hand in hand. My background in the Fine Arts has provided me with the ability to incorporate sophisticated visual solutions to a design approach that is very strategic and flexible.
